Proximate Composition and Determination of Epigallocatechin Gallate Content in Melon Manis Terengganu

Melon Manis Terengganu (MMT), Cucumis melo L., is a newly developed variety of melon introduced specifically for Terengganu. MMT has been claimed to have high antioxidant value. Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) become one the leading naturally derived polyphenols studied its potential health benefits. In present study, proximate composition and EGCG content were determined compared among fruit parts (flesh, seeds, peels). The powdered samples undergone analyses followed by determination concentration using performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). result revealed that seed highest protein (27.99 ± 0.36%), fat (28.79 0.32%) crude fibre (31.64 1.25%) contents as peel flesh. contained carbohydrate (67.48 0.37%) flesh seed. concentrations seed, significantly different (p < 0.05) another with (0.042 0.003 mg/mL).
